Sex soars during financial recession
Staying in has become a much more exciting prospect for cash-strapped couples who are investing in sex toys and lingerie instead of going out.
Sales of items such as blindfolds, handcuffs and sexy knickers have increased as more people are opting for a night between the sheets with their loved one over an expensive evening out.
Online retailer lovehoney.co.uk have said their sales of saucy items have have shot up by more than 50 per cent in the last two years. Meanwhile, a survey by The Sun’s Fabulous magazine found that 71 per cent of their readers now own a sex toy.
‘Couples simply can’t afford to spend £100 on a big night out any more. They’d rather spend £40 with us and have a lot more excitement together at home. We are all about affordable fun,’ said Lovehoney owner Richard Longhurst.
